Remember These?

I ran across these pic's as I was going thru some old records I had stored away. Wow!, What you can find in the most obscure places...Let me share them with you.....How about that "State of Mind" van seen creeping around Winter Park back in '67 & '68? I found an old picture of the State of Minds old drummer, Leo Gates, I replaced him as he left for College back in '67. Also my new Rogers drum set I bought when I started with the "State of Mind". Great sounding drums! How about the Winter Park Youth Center monthly schedule? And remember "The Place" over off Goldenrod Rd? The accoustics were horrible...Lot of echo but also a lot of good times! And here's the first business card of the "Go Mads" later to be named "Plant Life" I'll bet its the last one around! Wow, a taste in time.......hey thats not a bad name for a band...I'll tell my grandkids...

What Can I Say....Birnam Wood Rocked !

I've known these boys for over 35 years and still today, they fire up the audience with some of the raunchiest down right Southern Rock n Roll to come out of the South! It was a real pleasure to see my friends fire it up again. After their set, they brought me up to date on what their up to. While living in different cities & states, Birnam Wood has kept it rock solid and really delivers a unique song list of hard driving rock n roll.

It Took 38 Years.....2006 Orlando Reunion Concert

Floyd Radford, Mike Logan and Jeff Cole, original members of "TIN HOUSE" capped off the evening with some of the best Rock n Roll for over 1000 in attendence that nite. On the menue were some of the best bands to come out of Florida in the last 40 years......It was well worth the wait for "Tin House".

The House Was Packed...

1967 Another weekend at the Center, nice crowds and some good music happened in those days. These are some of the pictures we got from a good friend of ours. You've probably seen him in the shadows with his Nikon SLR..... no other than John Malarkey. This guy shot hundreds of photos at Orlando & W.P. Youth Centers. We'd buy them for a buck apiece. Great price John! A lot of the images you see in this blog came from John's collection. Saw him at the Orlando Reunion in 2006. Still shootin his Nikon. Recognise anyone above?

Hey! She told me she'd be at WP tonight!! grrrr

Hey...I'm naming names.....you ladies shouldn't have a problem with it....'cept maybe your now husbands. Donna now there was class, blonde hair, green eyes . Donna..you made some dude a great wife! You remember those nites in the parking lot between sets! ......... Lets not forget Marsha. Long dark hair and a true lady. So many young ladies and so little time! The parking lot was real popular...Yeow! And lets not forget the dressing rooms, what a party! In true Rock 'n Roll nature! Must not forget the lounge area on the back patio, Last time I saw that much Jamaican WAS in Jamaica! But one nite it happened, I met my beauty queen. A georgeous blonde blue eyed tiny goddess, Lisa. All over buddy, but thats another story....... Oh yea...We've been together for 38 years, she made me clean this paragraph up (from X to R) Rock On.......

The WHO & the Rascals. Keith Moon the man was insane on a set of drums. This was taken in Orando. "The Rascals" (at right) opened, I think at the old skating rink on Orange Ave sometime in 1966, that place had 1940s & 50s concerts with the big bands of the day. Also had a community pool beside it. A lot of history in that place...Blue Cheer and others.. Now what was I saying....oh yea..Keith was a blowout that nite. Also caught them in New York for the premier of "Tommy A Rock Opera" in 1968 at Bill Grahams "Filmore East" More on that story later...... Thought I'd never make it thru the payote trip...thanx to the indian guide I was looking for buffalos half the nite......and purple microdots--we all flew !

So...heres my detention class @WP High circa 1967 (Orlando Youth Center) LOL. Notice the ladies setting at their desks. My three brothers Mike, Tom and Mikey. Mike Darby, Floyd Radford and Mike Logan went on to open with Johnny Winters in the 70s or 80s not sure the date.. Sex - Drugs - Rock n Roll till the wee hours of the morning! You wouldn't believe some of the stories Mikey brought back....Like the one where all the room was nak....I'll tell it later.

Did Pete really catch it? Yes he did! This image was caught in St Petersburgh, Fl around 1968. The old Curtis Hixon Auditorium. A lot of great music came outta there. Anybody who was anybody seemed to play there in soldout crowds (photo courtesy of John Malarky).

Well, here's one of me. Early 1967 at a club on Pine St in Downtown Orlando (TiKi Lounge?). Remember the Wednesday nites Jam Sessons. It was about all the entertainment in Orlando.
